Hypnosis is a state of highly focused attention, and it's a state that you can learn to achieve.
Hypnosis unlocks blocks in our subconscious. The conscious mind can only process so much information at once, and hypnosis helps us reach the parts of our brain that store our memories and emotions.
Hypnosis facilitates neuroplastity. When we have new experiences, those experiences are encoded into our brains through a process called neuroplasticity. Neuroplasticity can be compared to a tree growing more branches when it encounters wind or rain: it grows new neural pathways to accommodate new information.
In psychology, hypnosis is defined as an altered state of consciousness induced by another person, known as the hypnotist or hypnotist's subject. It has also been defined as "an artificial mental concentration expressed during a suspension or loss of the ordinary conscious personality." It is used as part of psychotherapy and hypnotherapy (the use of hypnosis for therapeutic benefit). Hypnosis may also be used for pain relief or to induce anesthesia during surgery (hypnoanesthesia).
When you're hypnotized, your conscious mind steps back and allows your subconscious mind to take over. The subconscious mind makes up 90% of your brain, so it has a lot more power than the conscious mind. It controls what we do on a daily basis: our habits, emotions, and beliefs.
The subconscious mind doesn't listen to reason or logic; it only listens to suggestion. If someone tells you something often enough, eventually you'll believe it just because they said so many times! This is why advertisers use slogans like, "Just do it" or "I'm lovin' it." They want you to repeat their message over and over again until it becomes part of your belief system and changes how you behave without even realizing it!
Hypnosis works very similarly - by repeating suggestions over and over again until they become part of your subconscious belief system. When this happens, you start acting differently without even realizing it! For example, I had a client who had chronic insomnia for 6 years.
She tried many different methods from supplements to sleep studies. She came for an injury and by allowing herself to relax to overcome the injury she also got the best sleep in six years. It is interesting how many things are connected and her subconscious worked on everything to make it all function better together. The guidance of Hypnosis helped her release both physical and mental stress.
The most common use of hypnosis today is as a form of therapy. Hypnotherapy is an increasingly popular method for treating a range of psychological issues including anxiety, stress, and depression. It can also be used to help people stop smoking, lose weight or manage chronic pain.
